Nature of Job:

Obstetrician and Gynecologist most commonly known as Ob-Gyn are the one responsible for diagnosing the condition of the female body. They also provide examinations for pregnant and other condition of the woman organ.

Basic Tasks:

• Examine the health condition of a woman.
• Conduct tests and observation to the woman ailing organs such as breast and the reproductive system.
• Ask patients their condition and advise them what to do and what medications to take.
• Counseling pregnant women and conducting prenatal check ups.
• Guiding pregnant women from the delivery to their post partum stage.
• Detecting serious health problems such as cervical cancer, breast cancer, urinary tract infections and other diseases.

Education and Training Requirements:

• Must be a graduate of Obstetrics and Gynecology and hold an authentic license 
• Must have attended seminars focusing on women’s health and training programs.
• Must have at least 3-5 years experience as intern in public or private hospitals.

Skills and Competency Requirements:

• Must have handled different minor and major cases in women health problems.
• Must have above average knowledge in woman anatomy.
• Knowledge in treating and examining different diseases suffered by women such as cervical cancer, cancer of the vagina, breast cancer and other common and rare diseases.
• Must have broad knowledge on pregnancy
• Know how to communicate and handle different kinds of patients.
• Know what to advise to pregnant and ill patients regarding their condition and what medications to take.
• Can handle pressure.

Employment Opportunities:

Ob-Gyns are very much in demand abroad especially in the Middle East where they are expanding their medical care unit. Ob-Gyn is one of the highly paid medical professions in the world.

Working Environment:

Ob-Gyns are provided with a very pleasant office complete with medical equipments. The job will be stressful at times whenever there’s an emergency and a thick number of patients showed up.

Working Hours:

The working time of Ob-Gyn is 8-10 hours a day or less.

Career Advancement:

An entry level Ob-Gyn would have to wait years and work hard before getting a promotion because of the tight competition. Deserving Ob-Gyns will be promoted as head Ob-Gyn or Director of the Ob-Gyn Department or much higher position.
