Consul General Pendosina N. Lomondot warned jobseekers in the Philippines against accepting job offers in Saudi Arabia using visit visas. Apparently, Sawary Marketing and Development Group, a company in KSA recruiting Filipino staff for various supermarkets but does not issue working permits/ residency permits (iqamas) to hired workers.

Barely a week after its launching, a group based in United Kingdom that promotes the rights of Filipino nurses there issued out a warning against the earn and learn scheme as they are afraid that it might be used by some unscrupulous businessmen to exploit Filipino nurses eager to go out of the country to work.

The Philippine missions in Dubai and Northern Emirates waived the Dh120 (Php 1482) application fee for travel documents to further encourage Filipino workers to seek amnesty. Since there’s only less than a month before amnesty period lapses, the officials are worried about the few numbers of Filipinos applying for amnesty.

Another Middle Eastern Country, United Arab Emirates (UAE) implements the same policy by granting a three-month amnesty for illegal workers to legalize their status. The three-month period started last June 4.

Korea is no longer accepting overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) deployed by a private recruitment agency. Instead, only OFWs hired through the Employment Permit System (EPS) under the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) are allowed to work here.
