According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Egypt is not accepting domestic helpers from other countries, including the Philippines, except those who are working for foreign diplomats.

Stricter documentation and processing requirements plus an approval from the Secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is now required for foreign employers who wants to hire Filipino workers directly. This is in compliance with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Memorandum Circular No. 4 regarding the direct hiring of Filipino workers.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Board of Trustees enacted OWWA Resolution No. 38 dated 17 December 2007, Series of 2007, which lowered the OWWA contribution US dollar-peso exchange rate from US$1.00 : PhP 51.00 to US$1.00 : PhP 42.00, thus, reducing OWWA contribution rate to One Thousand and Fifty Pesos (PhP 1,050.00).

The general public, especially overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are being warned about the new text scam allegedly sponsored by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). The scammers will notify the prospective victim that they won a total of P2 million based on the last digits of their mobile phone in an electronic raffle draw conducted by BSP.
