The amnesty that started last September 1 will be ending soon on October 15 but apparently only a few OFWs in Kuwait have availed of the rare offer. Reports said that out of the 20,000 OFWs in Kuwait with no proper documents, only 115 have availed of the amnesty.

The new UAE rule requires that for foreign workers with no UAE Residence permit, his/her passport must be valid for at least six months. On the other hand, for the holders of a UAE special entry permit/employment visa, the passports must have a validity of at least three months.

Filipino travelers, including overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) traveling in and out in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are advised by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to declare cash and jewelries over SR60,000 (Saudi Riyals) or its equivalent in other currency upon arrival or departure to avoid confiscation or legal penalties.

The secretary of Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Marianito D. Roque, partially lifted the deployment ban of household service workers (HSWs) to Jordan with the signing of Department Order No. 93-08, Series of 2008. The HSWs that are covered in this order are those who are rehires meaning will return to Jordan to work for the same employer.

The Philippine Embassy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) warned overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who fled from their employer and want to be repatriated to the Philippines via the back-door exit through Jeddah. The runaway OFWs are advised to think twice before doing this because KSA is now aware of the practice and even implemented a stricter deportation rules.

Although China needs foreign workers to fill positions in the skilled, technical and professional job categories, there are no openings for domestic helpers. The government of China requires an authorization from the Municipal Labor and Social Security Bureau before a company/ establishment can hire foreign workers.
