Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) all over the world benefit when a kababayan reap victory in his or her field as it improves the reputation of Filipinos as globally competent workers.

For this reason, every OFW will surely be happy with the achievement of Manuel Perito who won a Trophy for Special Award of Appreciation and First Runner-Up in Health & Safety Category of the recently concluded Ideas.Arabia 2008.

Ideas.Arabia 2008 is organised by Dubai Quality Group, a prestigious award given every year for brightest ideas suggested by employees from any UAE establishment.

The 37 year-old Civil Engineer alumni of TIP-Manila, a true-blue Samareno, has been with Oman Insurance Company for more than three years. As a Risk Engineer, he deals with loss control and risk management for property insurance clients. Manuel is a bonafide and active member of the Philippine’s Society of Safety Professionals (PSSP) in UAE and this organization is proud of his achievement.

Manuel grew up with comics so it is not surprising when he injected comics in his technical job. He used to be a Komiks writer and illustrator while working as a Risk Surveyor for Malayan Insurance back in the Philippines. He would make use of comics’ illustration to disseminate information on health, safety and risk management awareness.

SUPER OMAN COMICS was created to educate, and instill loss control and safety information to insured clients in a graphical and illustrative form. It is about an Arab superhero who advises situational problems tackling health, safety and risk management.

His creativity was first noted when his employer, Oman Insurance Co. awarded him an appreciation trophy for his creative project called ‘Super Oman’ technical-info comics. And last April 22, 2008, he was finally recognized for his creative project SUPER OMAN as Dubai Quality Group named him one of the winners in IDEAS.ARABIA 2008 held in Mina Salam Hotel at Madinat Jumeirah.

According to Manuel, Oman Insurance was equally ecstatic and happy to receive the trophy and certificates.  Although named as runner-up in the Health & Safety Category to DUBAL (Implementation of Mobile Safety Training Unit), Super Oman Technical Info-Comics was given a special recognition due to its innovativeness and creativeness that wowed the panel of judges.

Manuel said, “I am imparting this success to the PSSP-UAE organization and all its members, and of course proudly carrying the name of the PHILIPPINES in my undertakings.”
