More Filipino teachers are expected to be hired in Baltimore City, Maryland, USA. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported the intention of the Baltimore City Public School Board officials to hire an additional 178 public school teachers by summer of this year.

The decision to hire teachers from the Philippines was expressed by the Baltimore City officials to nationals (ATN) officer lawyer Loy Cortel, welfare officer Oliver Flores and consul Rico Fos during a meeting.

The meeting between the embassy officials and school board officials was set to discuss the condition of 12 Filipino teachers which supposedly face the risk of being deported back to the Philippines for the reason that the board lack the necessary funds  to finance their employment visas.

The school board officials shed light on the issue. “While it is true that the city lost its funding for some of its programs, it does not mean that they will not rehire the Filipino teachers in the affected programs,” the embassy report said.

The school officials added, “The affected Filipino teachers will instead be transferred to other schools where teachers are needed and where their teaching skills and specializations match the needs of the intended school.”
