Gov't Sets up Hotline vs Illegal Recruiters
Mar 30, 2004
The world is getting smaller for illegal recruiters.
Aimed at strengthening the government's campaign against illegal recruitment, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) join forces to extend Hotline 117 to the victims of illegal recruiters.
"With this new development, 117 will not only lead the way for the prevention of crimes and arrest of criminals, it will also serve as an effective tool in going after illegal recruiters who have made money at the expense of Filipinos who just want to seek greener pastures abroad," says Local Government Secretary Jose Lina Jr.
Lina added that the special hotline would take reports from the public on the illegal activities of recruiters for local and foreign jobs and other exploitative and hazardous forms of human trafficking.
Victims of illegal recruitment are advised to contact 117 for immediate action.
