Saudi Arabia Travel Reminders

The Islamic month of Hajj, also known as the annual pilgrimage to Makka (Mecca), will begin on or about January 22, 2004, and will last until February 20, 2004. Travel to Makka and Madina in Saudi Arabia is forbidden for non-Muslims.
Business people and visitors, other than pilgrims, should avoid arriving in the Western province of the Kingdom during this period due to overcrowded hotels and transportation services.
Foreign pilgrims should stay at hotels, hostels, and campuses run by the Hajj Commission of Saudi Arabia. They should also register with the official Hajj Organization of Pilgrims for Turkey and the countries of Europe and North America.
Hajj visas are required and are valid only for travel within Saudi Arabia to the holy cities of Makka and Madina, and to Jeddah. During the Hajj, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia requires that all pilgrims be vaccinated against the A and C strains of meningitis.
