Applying an overseas job through the Internet makes it easy for con artist bilk countless of people. Since the job is offered by a company outside the country it is not easy to identify if it is a scam and if you are dealing with a swindler.
Compared to legitimate recruitment agencies that have permanent address, unscrupulous operators deal outside their office premise. Likewise, they only make use of a post office or mail drop address.
Here are some tips if you are dealing with scam artist:
1. They ask for money up front.
2. They use post office boxes, instead of office addresses.
3. They make promises that you can fly immediately.
4. They make promises of employment and guarantees of refunds.
5. They charge fees for giving you a job lead.
The Worst Overseas Job Scam
Few years back, thousands of people from different countries has been duped and lured with the sweet-tongued scam artist from the Caledonian Offshore Ltd, who asked people to pay US$189 in other countries and here in the Philippines, they are asking US$300-$400 in exchange of non-existent jobs.
When the con artist received a letter of application though email, they will send back an answer to the prospect victim asking to pay them US$189 to process the application. After sending the money, the victim will get nothing from the scam artist even a notification that they have received the money.
The said con artists from the Caledonian Offshore Ltd are still at large and looking for more victims. And some overseas applicants still trust the company without knowing that they are just wasting their hard-earned money. Aside from that there are still some OFWs who aims for a higher pay are applying in the said company.
Caledonian Offshore Ltd. is said to be a Canadian-based company recruiting workers for an oil industry.
