Working abroad is a great opportunity for Filipino job seekers to further their career. Madalas masaya ang tao pag nag-uumpisa pa lamang ngunit pag tumatagal na may mga araw na mahirap mag-focus sa trabaho. Perhaps you feel your mind drift to what you will do when you finish work, or thoughts of your family might take up your time. You’re just having one of those days when it’s hard to focus.
There are several things we can change in our lifestyle habits to help our overall concentration at work, such as getting enough sleep. If you’ve had a bad night’s sleep and feel your concentration decreasing the next day, chances are you’ll want a trick up your sleeve for regaining stamina. Here are six quick tips for how to stay focused throughout the work day.
Exercise
Eto ang pinakamahirap at challenging talaga sa karamihan na nagtatrabaho ngayon pero dahil we spend long hours at our desks or worksite, kelangan natin mag-execise! Exercise has a positive effect on the brain, as it increases oxygen flow and helps improve memory and after work, you can engage in a vigorous activity such as running or aerobics. During the day, you might want to stick to less dynamic activity, so you don’t come back to your desk sweaty and tired. Maari ka din maglakad lakad during your break to help regain focus. Walking is an excellent way to clear your mind, especially if you can walk outside, in nature. Stretching is another great way to improve circulation and alleviate any aching joints and muscles.
Meditate
The practice of clearing your mind is an ancient technique for stabilizing focus. Try to find a quiet space where you can then quieten your mind. Find a comfortable position on a chair or on the floor. You might even wish to lie down, close your eyes and try not to think of work tasks ahead of you. Just try to be still. Breathe slowly and deeply: in through the nose and out through the mouth. After 10 minutes, slowly stand up and return to your work. If you can find a few minutes to do this every day, you will gradually feel your ability to “clear your mind” and you will stay productive at work longer.
Have a Snack
Certain foods and drinks are proven to boost productivity, and having a snack can help you focus. Always drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Many swear by coffee to get them through the day and an espresso will certainly kickstart your energy. Be advised that green tea is a healthier option for those feeling the need for caffeine. Recommended foods for good brain power include blueberries, leafy green vegetables, avocado, nuts, fatty fish and flax seeds. Nakaka-tempt kumain ng chocolates or candies, but remember you want to avoid snacks with high sugar levels as it could result in sugar rush, which will make you more tired after it wears off. Pero pwede ka na lang kumain ng dark chocolate with at least 70 percent cocoa to curb your sweet tooth.
Minimize Distraction
Isa pang mahirap gawin ay ang mag-focus. Focusing 100 percent on one task at a time is good for productivity, but multitasking is often unavoidable. Sometimes, we just have to zone out from everything that's going on around us to focus on our job. This can be difficult, especially if you have coworkers who need to speak with you regarding work-related matters. If you have a tight deadline, consider communicating this to those around you, so they can leave you in peace to finish the work. If you can, switching off your phone or muting notifications can be an idea. Try to minimize multitasking.
Take a Break
Perhaps you just need a break? It is important to know when it’s time to switch off. Leave your desk or the task you’re working on for a short break to get your composure back. Perhaps make a phone call or chat to a colleague about things unrelated to work. Listen to your favourite music. Read a few pages in a book. Give yourself a little neck massage. To separate yourself from work by doing something completely unrelated can help you focus when you go back to what you were doing.
Finally, keep your eyes on the prize. Remind yourself why you’re there. Many OFWs’ have worked very hard to get to where they are. This is your career and it’s important to have a positive mindset at work. Keeping yourself motivated is key to staying focused.
