One horrible mistake some employees make in an emotional state is to leave their job without finding another job. If you are currently working, find another job first before you quit. Doing so will not only add to your financially burden, it will also add to the days, months, or worse, years of unemployment before you find a better job. But there are several things that hinder employed individuals in hunting for prospective jobs.
There is a correct way to seek employment in other companies while you are still productively employed. These are some of the points you should bear in mind when seeking out other opportunities.
1. Keep your job search a secret. Do not discuss your plans during your break hours and never post it on social media. If you are sure that you want to find another opportunity, keep it to yourself because you are not sure that you’ll get hired quickly. Your boss and co-workers might take it the wrong way causing you to eventually lose your job without landing a new one.
2. Update your resume, portfolio, and social media. A good resume will help but an outstanding resume can land you an interview. So update your resume with your most recent employment including your current one and highlight your skills. “Portfolio” can be a tool for your job hunting because there are companies that search good ones on the internet. Nowadays, everything is on internet and when looking for a job, some employers take time to search you on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter (Hindi lahat ng bagay kailangan ipost sa social media). Be sure to update them because these social media sites are the reflection of yourself.
3. Confidentiality is a must (hindi lahat kinukwento). If you’re planning on leaving a company, it is best to stay quiet until a final decision has been made. Let the company you’re applying to know that it is best not to get in touch with your current employee during the application process.
4. Send out resumes once you’re at home. It is just right to not use company time to send out your resume.
5. Schedule interviews wisely. Do not compromise your work because you need to attend an interview. It is better to schedule interviews during your lunch break or after your office hours. It is not good to lie to your current employee because it will be a manifestation of your character. You can also file for leave to attend a promising interview.
6. Send your resume to reliable employment agencies like Ikon who will keep your job search confidential and help you find the ideal employer.
7. Be a model employee. Do not in any manner bad mouth or siraan your boss, your colleagues or the company because jumping from one company to another is normal. And always bear in mind that they are your team. It is better to leave with good camaraderie rather than leave after an argument which will leave a bad impression.
Wanting to find a better opportunity is normal and it is your right to do so. But bear in mind that if you’re seeking a better job, you must respect your current job and colleagues. And when you finally find another job, make sure that your current work is done properly and everything is in place, all the paper work is in order and you don’t have anything to worry about or regret.
