What You Post in Your Social Media Accounts May Cause This
Feb 26, 2015
Filipinos are advised by the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh to be discreet when posting on social media accounts like Facebook and Twitter as this can lead to a police investigation. The embassy said that inappropriate posts or photographs in social media accounts, whether intentional or not, may result to police investigation which may further lead to legal or judicial action against the account owner. Violations or offenses against the Muslim culture like (1) pictures depicting use of alcohol and gambling, (2) slanderous statements against co-workers or superiors, (3) pictures depicting illicit relations, (4) posting of lewd or sensitive photos, and (5) possession of pornographic photos or videos are what prompted the embassy to call on Filipinos etiquette for their social media accounts. Filipinos should respect the culture, traditions and religious beliefs of Saudi Arabia and fellow expatriate communities since they are visitors in the kingdom. They are also told to avoid criticism on public or social media accounts and not to engage in debates that aimed to criticize religion or political institutions. *source here
