Top 5 Things OFWs do During Their Days Off
Apr 14, 2014
Overseas Filipino workers are not robots! They need to relax, too. However, in a fast-paced life in a foreign land, how do our modern-day heroes spend a time off? What do they busy themselves with?
We gathered some answers from veterans and new-hired OFWs alike, and here are the most common activities they do when "the boss is out".
1. Meet with friends. Working abroad is never easy. One main reason for it to be difficult is that you are living away from your family. To avoid feeling the absence of their loved ones, OFWs find time to meet with kababayans and at least spend a couple of hours with them talking about life, love and career. Filipino restaurants and bars exist abroad, some Pinoy groups meet there and let themselves devour the rarely tasted Pinoy dishes abroad. After all, this is the least they can do still feel the Pinoy vibe despite living and working in a foreign land.
2. Do the household chores. Laba, luto, linis and again. . . and again . . . After serving their employers, it is time to serve themselves and that is through the form of their personal chores.
3. Attend church service. Some Filipinos, especially those who work in the Middle East find it difficult to practice their religion in their host country. However, in some other parts of the world, OFWs still find time to attend church services and masses.
4. Keep themselves visible in social media. Selfie, anyone? Some OFWs give themselves a chance to keep up with the latest stuff happening on social media. Facebook can now be identified as the channel for Filipinos working overseas to know the things happening back here in the Philippines while Twitter is the portal for what's the talk of the town in the last 24 hours. Instagram, well, if you are a fan of pictures and taking photos of your face, post it there.
5. Do the couch potato life the whole day or sleep. Instead of doing outdoor activities or attending to personal chores, some Overseas Filipino workers choose to just stay at home, watch movie all day, browse the world wide web all day or the easiest thing among all: SLEEP. After 5 to 6 days of working, it is very understandable that someone would rather sleep or do nothing than busy themselves with outdoor activities and stuff. It's a no-brainer, working is exhausting and the only time that you can "recharge" is during that one or two days off your employer gave you. So, might as well take advantage of it.
