Filipino Nurses Are Highly Needed in Japan
Dec 17, 2013
Filipino registered nurses may get a chance to work in Japan, as reported by Philippine Ambassador to Japan Manuel Lopez.
Lopez said that Filipino registered nurses have a good potential of working in Japan since the country is experiencing an aging population and Filipinos, aside from Indonesians are preferred nursing aids for the Japanese aging population.
But getting employed in Japan is not that easy, as all those interested to work in Japan as nurses, need to learn the country's national language, Nihonggo, to be able to qualify and land a job in the country.
The nursing licensure examination in Japan includes a language test where one's capability to speak and write Nihonggo is assessed to be able to apply safe nursing care. Lopez said that the Philippines appeals to the Japanese government to re-assess the difficulty of the nursing licensure examination.
To date, only 15 nursing students passed the nursing board exam in Japan since the Philippines and Japan agreed to deploy Filipino nurses under the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA) program in 2009.
Aside from nurses, household service workers, skilled workers for electronics and technical field, engineers, IT experts and even skilled laborers like welders and construction workers are also in-demand in Japan.
