Canada to hire more Filipino caregivers in 2014
Dec 3, 2013
Filipinos caregivers who plan to work in Canada may get the chance to do so, as Canada is planning to hire more Filipinos to work as live-in caregivers in the country.
In a statement by Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, Canada plans to hire at leat 17,500 workers for the live-in caregiver program (LCP), where caregivers provide care to their patients (whether children or elders) while they live with them.
"Although open to other nationalities, the Philippines is, and continues to be, the top source of live-in caregivers in Canada. The rapid uptrend in the deployment of Filipinos to Canada in the coming years can be expected," Baldoz said in a statement.
The Live-in Caregiver Program (LCP) opens up opportunities for Filipino caregivers to get hired in Canada when employers cannot find qualified Canadians to fill the positions.
