Pinoy Couple Sets Up Distressed OFWs in Saudi
Sep 26, 2013
Unemployed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Riyadh, Saudi are warned about a new modus operandi wherein the perpetrators are also Filipinos. The Filipino couple who is only known by the names Marlon and Mylene allegedly fool jobless OFWs into believing that they can offer high- paying jobs but in truth intend to hand them over to Saudi authorities.
The modus of the couple was revealed by the Filipino Sports Organization in Riyadh when two of their members end up as victims. Apparently, the couple gets paid for every Filipino that they send to Saudi police for arrest. It is however not specified the person or organization who pays the couple.
The OFW group relayed that the couple would contact unemployed Filipinos and offer job opportunities with attractive salary. The organization is wondering how and where the couple got the contact numbers of their potential victims. When the clueless OFW agreed to the job offer, they would then set up an interview appointment with the supposed target employer. Unfortunately, on the day of the interview, Saudi authorities instead of employers would show up and the poor victims end up in jail.
But instead of employers, authorities show up to immediately arrest them on the day of the said interview. The group learned that the couple gets paid for every person they turn over to authorities. However, it was not immediately clear who actually pays the couple.
Hoping to put a stop to this illegal activity, the OFW organization reported it to the Philippine Embassy. The Embassy is the best agency to warn other OFWs about the couple's activity and this type of scam.
