Menchu Sanchez, the Filipina nurse that brought pride to the Philippines received many recognitions for her heroic deed and quick thinking that saved the lives of 20 infants in critical care condition during the height of Hurricane Sandy is now in the Philippines to received another award. 

Her quick thinking lifted the reputation of Filipino nurses in America as she was even a special guest during the State of the Union Address of US President, Barack Obama last February 2013.

Sanchez who had already received awards from various organizations and got interviewed by international press went home to the Philippines after thirteen years in America to received the Quezon Medalya ng Karangalan award.

One of the first things she did upon arriving at the Philippines is going to a Filipino restaurant to eat some of the Pinoy dishes she loves and miss.

In an interview by ABS-CBN, Sanchez said that she can't believe that once in her life, she was honored by the US President, one most powerful leader in the world.

She recalled that she was overwhelmed when Obama hugged her tight and thanked her for coming to his inauguaral address.


The Filipina nurse said that the said experience filled her with pride, saying she wanted to scream at the top of her lungs and tell the world that she is a Filipina.
 

She said, "Kasi likas sa atin yung bayanihan, yung pagtulong at pagligtas ng iba. Nag-yellow blouse pa nga ako kasi love ko si Cory."

Sanchez is a native of Catanuan, Quezon and is the second of her three children.

Sanchez surely has come a long way from her humble beginnings. A native of Catanuan, Quezon and is the second of three children, her mother raised her and her siblings alone as her father died when she was only three. She said she considers her mother her hero.

She said. "Siya ang inspirasyon ko, ang dami niyang pinag-daanan para sa amin," she said.

Despite all her achievements, Sanchez dream is simply to give her children a good education and to continue bringing pride to the Philippines.
