Canada to Accept Application for Federal Skilled Program Starting May 4

Good news to Filipinos dreaming to work in Canada! The Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has announced accepting of candidates for the Federal Skilled Worker Professional Program (FSWP) starting May 4, 2013.
According to Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Jason Kenney, Canada aims to get skilled immigrants that will help boost economic growth of Canada.
“The government’s focus remains on jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity. Under the new Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canada will be able to attract the skilled immigrants our economy requires, who are the most likely to succeed and contribute their full skill set to the Canadian economy.”
What are the 24 priority jobs?
• Engineering managers
• Financial and investment analysts
• Geoscientists and oceanographers
• Civil engineers
• Mechanical engineers
• Chemical engineers
• Mining engineers
• Geological engineers
• Petroleum engineers
• Aerospace engineers
• Computer engineers (except software engineers/designers)
• Land surveyors
• Computer programmers and interactive media developers
• Industrial instrument technicians and mechanics
• Inspectors in public and environmental health and occupational health and safety
• Audiologists and speech-language pathologists
• Physiotherapists
• Occupational Therapists
• Medical laboratory technologists
• Medical laboratory technicians and pathologists’ assistants
• Respiratory therapists, clinical perfusionists and cardiopulmonary technologists
• Medical radiation technologists
• Medical sonographers
• Cardiology technicians and electrophysiological diagnostic technologists, n.e.c. (not elsewhere classified)
What are the qualifications?
· Have at least 1 year of full-time paid work experience in the last 10 years;
· Demonstrate at least adequate-intermediate language proficiency in all four skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) in English or French. Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7;
· Obtain at least 67 points on the new point grid, which is based on factors such as language proficiency, age, work experience, education, and adaptability; and
· Have any foreign educational credentials assessed, authenticated, and given an equivalent value in Canada
How many applicants will be accepted?
Only 5,000 candidates will be accepted.
Educational Assessment:
The government of Canada has mandated all applicants to get their educational credentials assessed against Canadian education standards. The three organizations to carry out assessments for general occupations are World Education Services, Comparative Education Services and International Credentials Assessment Services of Canada.
