Minimum Salary of Filipino Workers in Tawian Increases
Apr 10, 2013
Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has announced minimum wage increase to Filipino workers in Taiwan from NT$18,780 (P25,813.30) to NT$19,047 (P26,180.29) effective this April 2013.
“This is good news, not only for the overseas Filipino workers deployed in Taiwan, but for all workers (there),” DOLE secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said.
The wage increase covers factory workers and those covered by the Labor Standards Act. However, salary of household-bases caretakers will still remain at NT$15,480 (P21,268.90).
“We welcome this development as this would benefit a lot of workers. We know that the government of Taiwan ensures that the welfare of its workers is well taken care of,” Baldoz added.
Labor Attache to Taipei Rey Conferido said that request to increase the salary of the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) was proposed last year but receives rejection from the Executive of Yuan due to the difficult economic situation of Taiwan. However, Executive Yuan said that the proposed adjustment would be approved if their country will meet the following: GDP grows over 3 percent for at least two consecutive quarters, if the unemployment rate goes lower than 4 percent for at least two consecutive months, or if the Council for Economic Planning and Development will support the proposed adjustment based on its evaluation of the economy within the period.
According to the latest report of Conferido, Taiwan finally approved the proposal after meeting their consequences. Taiwan’s GDP improves a growth of 3.24% during the last quarter of 2012 and will likely to improve by another 3% for the first quarter of 2013.
