Anti-Trafficking Seminars in Provinces with Widespread Illegal Recruitment
Feb 13, 2013
To inform many Filipinos about the reality and dangers of human trafficking, the POEA is set to conduct pre-employment orientation seminars or PEOS about it in ten (10) Philippine provinces where there are many reported cases of illegal recruitment. Some of the provinces where anti-trafficking seminars will be held are Isabela, Quirino, Batangas, and Pampanga.
The POEA Director, Lucia Villamayor said during the “”Forum on Forced Labor Trafficking held at the POEA headquarters in Mandaluyong that the PEOS would provide Filipino job seekers with knowledge about human trafficking and other job issues.
According to Villamayor, human trafficking also known as "modern-day slavery," affected 20.9 million people all over the world in 2012.
She encouraged the public to take advantage of the free programs and services offered by POEA such as the PEOS because it would help curb the spread of illegal recruitment and human trafficking.
The PEOS lasts for three hours and would cover issues on illegal recruitment, forced labor, and human trafficking and tips on how to avoid being a victim. There is a daily schedule of PEOS at the POEA main office in Mandaluyong and is also held in schools across NCR such as the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.
