Help Stop Human Trafficking by Sending a Text Message
Feb 21, 2013
Human trafficking is a serious crime that cruelly destroys lives so everyone must do their part to stop this illegal activity. Fortunately, a recent move by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) and Globe/Touch Mobile would make the campaign against human trafficking much easier because it would allow one to report human trafficking activities by simply sending an SMS (short-messaging service).
According to CFO, the 1343 Action Line started its operations in March 2011 but the service can only be accessed by making a phone call. The new program has now improved to offer even SMS.
The new text-based 1343 Action Line is created to expedite the action and replies to referrals, inquiries or follow-up regarding cases of human trafficking. It is also expected to give quick and better assistance to the victims of human trafficking.
Those interested to know more about Globe and Touch Mobile subscribers can text <1343(space)HELP> or <help(space)1343> then send to 1343 free of charge.
The CFO said, "It is hoped that by making 1343 Action Line available through texts, more cases of human trafficking will be reported and resolved."
The 1343 Action Line received a total of 7,762 calls in 2012; of this number there are 198 actual cases with 130 victims, 19 of which were minors.
The anti-human trafficking action line is 1343.
To report human trafficking, just call or text 1343.
Those who are outside Metro Manila can call (02) 1343 or report through their website at www.1343actionline.ph
