Jan 22, 2013
Filipinos working in Hong Kong are warned against a recruitment agency based in the said Asian country that is offering employment opportunities to Cyprus and other third-country destinations such as such USA, Canada, Russia, United Kingdom, Chile, Czech Republic and others.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the Philippine Embassy in Hong Kong received a report that there is one Hong Kong based agency that is actively hiring Filipinos for the fake jobs.
A news article that appeared in the official website of the DFA said, "The Consulate has received reports that a certain agency continues to recruit Filipino nationals in Hong Kong and the Philippines for fictitious jobs in Cyprus and other third country destinations."
Filipino workers are also advised to always check if the job offer is currently in-demand in the country of destination. They can do this by logging on to www.philcongen-hk.com.
They should also verify the validity of an employment offer at the Philippine Overseas Labor Office(POLO).
The Labor Attaché of POLO, Romulo Salud informed that there are no job orders for Filipino workers that have been approved for Hong Kong-based employment agencies. This is because deployment of Filipino workers should be processed by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) in Manila.
The Philippine Consulate has extended help to the job scam victims in Hong Kong and is currently in collaboration with the Philippine Consulate General in Macau and the DFA in Manila to assist any Filipino who has been affected by these illegal recruitment activities.
