Cheap and Modern Ways For OFWs And Their Families To Keep In Touch

 Filipinos are known all over the world for their close family ties. It is common for a Filipino household to be composed of parents, grandparents, children and grandchildren. Having this culture, one can just imagine the homesickness and difficulties that Filipinos who have to go to a foreign country to work experience.

 

Fortunately, technology has made the world much smaller and instant communication is now very possible. With various modern ways of communication that are fast, instant and affordable, there is no longer any reason for an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) to lost touch with his or her kin in the Philippines. The same goes for the relatives and friends of the OFWs in the Philippines.

 

Listed below are the cheap and high-tech ways Filipinos abroad can get in touch:

 

Phone Calls and Text Messages:

Filipinos love to talk and we also hold the title “texting capital” of the world so calling and sending SMS would never go out of fashion. Telecommunication companies make it easier to do this now as they offer affordable rates for international calls.

 

There are also roaming services to choose from so voice calls and sending of short messaging service (SMS) is much cheaper. There are also special SIM cards that are designed for OFWs.

 

Social Media Sites:

You can be updated with the latest happenings in the Philippines and the latest activities of your loved ones back home through popular social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Social media sites have been a way for friends and families who have lost touch to reunite as almost everybody has a Facebook account.

 

Aside from posting status messages, one can share photos and send private messages. Chats and video chats are also available.

 

Emails and Video Chats: One can communicate via emails thru Yahoo Gmail, and other email platforms. Online and video chat can also be done for free through Skype and Yahoo Messenger.

 

Blogging

Filipinos abroad with a knack for writing can turn into blogging to document their experiences while working and living in a foreign country. Blogging can serve as a stress reliever and can help an OFW reach a wider audience. One can start a blog for free in popular blogging platforms such as Blogspot and Wordpress.
