THE NEW NAMES

The New Zealand Immigration Service renamed the following:

*The Priority Occupations List (POL) to Long Term Skill Shortage List

*The Occupational Shortage List (OSL) to Immediate Skill Shortage List
These new names are better indicators of lists' purposes.

Below are the lists of shortage that require hiring:

Long Term Skill Shortage List

The Civil Engineers category has been broadened and is now called Professional Engineers.

Professional Engineers

Roading                          

Design                            

Structural                       

Mechanical

Geotechnical

Electronic

Project

Transport/Traffic

Fire

Civil

Environmental

The qualifications or requirements for these occupations have been amended.

Information Communications Technology (ICT) 

The list has been amended to reflect actual skill shortages. The following have been added:

Orchard Managers Agronomist/Crop Production Managers

Grower Managers

Automotive Electricians

Fitter & Turner

Cabinet maker

Boatbuilder

Carpenter/Joiner

Fitter Welder

Plumber 

Automotive Mechanics (patrol and diesel)

These have become two separate occupations:

Diesel Mechanic

Motor Mechanic
