Free Livelihood Training Soon to Be Available to OFWs
Nov 25, 2011
The Technology Resource Center (TRC) and Duty Free Philippines Corporation (DFPC) would soon start to offer a great opportunity for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who want to be entrepreneurs. Thru TRC and DFPC, OFWs would be entitled to free livelihood training package upon purchase of livelihood tools at any Duty Free outlets.
This is made possible thru a memorandum of agreement (MOA) that was recently signed by the two government corporations.
According to Dennis Cunanan, Director General of TRC, OFWs should take advantage of this great program for them because aside from the privilege of tax-free shopping, they would also be given a chance to start their own business.
Cunanan said, “Being successful in business is all about taking full advantage of great opportunities. And I believe this is one such opportunity every returning or visiting OFW should really consider.”
In this program for OFWs, the TRC will provide the training at special discounted rates and the remaining cost of the training will be shouldered by DFPC. The OFW can choose a beneficiary that will avail the training.
To guide the OFWs or their chosen beneficiaries in deciding what business to start, the TRC will hold a special Magnegosyo Forum and exclusive livelihood counseling.
An OFW beneficiary is only entitled to one free training package but they can opt to give the free training to a close relative or friend.
The Chief Operating Officer of DFPC, Lorenzo Formoso said that they would focus on TRC courses for setting up food-related businesse such as food processing, meat processing, Chinese dimsum and bread making.
