Philippine Ambassador: More Jobs are Waiting for OFWs in Canada
Sep 11, 2011
Canada remains to be a viable destination of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) as the demand for foreign workers in the said country continues to be high. The chance for OFWs to get a job in Canada is also big as the Philippine Ambassador to Canada, Christopher Thornley, said that more employment opportunities await Filipinos there. Apparently Canadian employers prefer Filipino workers because of the good educational background and good communication skills.
The Ambassador said that Canada specifically wants to hire healthcare professionals, lawyers, teachers, and trade people. He also informed that the Filipino community now constitutes the largest ethnic groups in Canada. The current statistics shows that there are about 500,000 Filipino migrants in Canada. Thornley also mentioned that majority of the 250,000 slots for immigrants in Canada last year were given to Filipinos.
Thornley shared more good news when he said that aside from the intention to hire more OFWs, Canada also wish to develop trade relations with the Philippines, especially on agriculture, outsourcing, food, technology, insurance and other financial services.
