Filipino women who want to work as entertainers in Cyprus are warned by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA). According to POEA Chief, Jennifer Jardin Manalili, there have been reports from the Philippine Embassy in Athens that some nightclubs in Cyprus are forcing Filipino entertainers to work as prostitutes.
The reports from the Philippine Embassy in Athens, cites cases wherein legitimate Filipino entertainers that applied as dancers and singers in Cyprus were beaten and forced to have sex to customers of the night clubs where they are employed.
The Cyprus Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance issues “entertainer entry visa” to foreigners but Filipina entertainers are being deployed illegally by escort service syndicates because of an existing suspension of deployment of entertainers to Cyprus by virtue of POEA
