New Warnings Against Illegal Recruiters
Sep 24, 2004
New warnings have been issued to the public against the illegal recruiters. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE ) confirms that there are no job openings in China. DOLE has also belied reports that it announced job openings in China and Australia as well as other countries. Acting Labor and Secretary Manuel G. Imson clarified that DOLE never issued any information stating that there are 7,000 job openings in China.
Imson cited illegal recruiters who are using the Internet to recruit exploitative jobs in China. He specifically mentioned that DOLE received a report that the China-based group “Australia-China Cultural Interchange Foundation” or ACCIF has been using luring the Filipino teachers to exploitative jobs in China. See OFWGuide.com’s report on ACCIF
He warns teachers and OFWs to be wary of these kinds of recruiters and verify with the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) and at the nearest DOLE office the jobs in China offered to them.
He also encourages the public to report individuals and groups to POEA and DOLE that are offering job opportunities in China. If confirmed illegal, the POEA and DOLE will be coordinating with Presidential Task Force Against Illegal Recruitment Captain Reynaldo Jaylo for the imprisonment of illegal recruiters. Imson also said that DOLE has proposed for an inter-agency effort in finding legitimate overseas jobs for OFWs.
According to him, Labor and Secretary Pat Sto. Tomas has called for the assistance of other government personnel overseas in the marketing missions of Philippine Overseas labor Offices (POLOs). She also said that labor attaches abroad prioritize work that involves the safety of OFWs onsite. The conduct of marketing missions have been a secondary to the POLO staff and that this missions can be enhanced with the assistance of other government personnel at the Philippine embassies in other countries.
Imson made it clear that the DOLE reports that were publicly released indicated only the skills which are in demand or job prospects rather than job openings abroad. He said that finding more jobs, which are legal and documented, is one of the deterrence against illegal recruitment.
