The Transformers, Richard Gordon-Bayani Fernando team up who aims change for 2010 and they believe that they have arrive just in time that the Philippines need a change. Can they also change the lives of our overseas Filipino workers (OFWs)? How would OFWs benefit when he won the 2010 election?
Gordon’s Profile
Richard Juico Gordon, son of the late Founding Father of Olongapo and 1st elected Municipal Mayor of Olongapo, James L. Gordon and Amelia J. Gordon, Pearl S. Buck Woman of the Year 2003 and first elected City Mayor of Olongapo, born on 5th of August 1945 in Castillejos Zambales. He is an A.B. History and Government graduate at the Ateneo de Manila University and Bachelor of Laws at the University of the Philippines. And married to Kate H. Gordon, UNESCO Mayors for Peace Prize Awardee in Asia 1998, three-term Mayor of Olongapo City (1995-2004).
Gordon has served as Olongapo Mayor (1980-1986 and 1988-1993), Founding Chairman and Administrator of Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), Secretary of Department of Tourism (DoT) and currently have a seat in the Senate.
Accomplishments as:
Mayor
Richard Gordon is the knight-and-shining-armor of the people of Olongapo when he stood with them as their Mayor after the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo and then rebuilt their lives and the city, they succeed and Olongapo later become model city. He has turned Subic Bay as one of country’s passage in economic advancement since the city has bringing billions of investment and 100,000 jobs possible. Curious world leaders like Margaret Thatcher, Dr. Mahatir Mohammad, and U.S. President Bill Clinton visited Subic to see how the city transformed after the its downfall, and they were electrified, thus the 18 APEC head of economies decided to held the 4th Leaders’ Summit there.
Secretary of Tourism
“Tourism means jobs; where tourism advances, poverty retreats.”
Gordon strongly believe that tourism is gateway to rapid progress of the Philippines, thus he came up with “Wow Philippines” campaign and it has been a great help for the country to became a new tourist destination and he managed to kept the tourism afloat despite the many challenges that bring the country to humiliation.
Senator
Gordon never stops serving people and dreaming for a better Philippines. He was the main author of Automated Elections, since he always hopes for a clean, honest, fair, and credible election.
In his seat in Senate, Gordon never stops promoting the Philippine tourism and this resulted to The Tourism Bill Act of 2009 been signed into law. He is also the principal author of the Veterans Equity Law and he is the Chairman of the Blue Ribbon Committee.
In every calamity you will always see Gordon in action even before he was assigned as the Chairman of the Philippine National Red Cross and a Governor of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Furthermore, when the disaster is over, count on him to be there to help rebuild the community.
His plans for OFWs
Senator Richard Gordon never set aside the OFWs if he won the presidential race. Among his plans for our modern-day heroes are:
- Alternative employment for displaced OFWs in Lebanon.
- Maintain an up-to-date database and locator system of all OFWs in all Philippine embassies and consular offices.
- Creation of a provident fund for OFWs that would help them save and invest their money for their social security.
