Eugene Domingo of Dasmariñas, Cavite is currently employed as Computer Programmer in Khamis, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). He has been working overseas for more than two years now and so far thinks that his decision to work abroad has been fruitful.
His reasons for seeking a career overseas includes enhancing his skills as an IT professional but like most OFWs, his foremost priority and motivation is the future of his family. He wanted to give his children a good life and education.
Prior to moving overseas, Eugene is employed as a technical support in an agency somewhere in Manila. He arrived in Khamis, KSA on March 28, 2006.
It can be said that adjusting to his new life overseas has not been so difficult for him. Eugene enjoys working with people of different nationalities. As his wok includes traveling to different parts of the Kingdom, he also loves exploring new places.
Eugene admits that working abroad can indeed be very lonesome because you are miles away from your family but he is able to find happiness in the company of friends. He takes pleasure in spending time with them as they often went fishing on a nearby beach.
He only finds most Arab citizens hot-headed unlike Filipinos who are patient and always strive to do the best in their job. To help fellow OFWs, Eugene is now a member of Overseas Filipino Workers Kaalaman Foundation (OFWKF), a group that aims to uplift the lives of OFWs. He shares his knowledge by teaching Filipinos in Khamis, KSA about computer technology. He has been teaching for more than a year now.
The OFWKF also imparts knowledge about, AutoCAD, Basic Photography with picture and video editing, cellphone repair, baking, etc.
Although Eugene is doing well in Saudi Arabia, he still misses his wife and kids very much. At times when homesickness strikes him, Eugene just remind himself that the people he misses are also the very reason why he is working in a foreign land -- to prepare for their good future.
Eugene’s message to all OFWs around the world: Life is different when you are in a foreign country. My advice to all OFW's around the world is to work hard and strive to do their very best in everything. This is to show the world the superiority and excellence of Pinoy workers.
