9 Steps to Do to Obtain a Philippine Passport
Apr 21, 2014
One of the basic steps that a Filipino who wish to work overseas must do is to secure a passport. Among all the required documents, a ready passport is the primary document asked by a recruitment agency or the foreign employer when someone is interested to pursue a job abroad.
1. Prepare the requirements. Depending on your status (Single, married, spouse of a foreign national, applying for a child's passport), additional documents may be asked.
- The general documents asked by the Department of Foreign Affairs are the following: Duly accomplished application form available for download at the DFA website.
- Birth Certificate in Security Paper (SECPA) issued by the National Statistics Office (NSO) or Certified True Copy of your Birth Certificate issued by the Local Civil Registrar (LCR) and authenticated by the NSO. (If born abroad, BC must also be authenticated by NSO)
- Valid picture IDs and other documents to prove identity.
2. The DFA encourages passport applicants to set an apppointment date as to when they can get their passports. When you have set an appointment via the Passport application appointment system, take note of your reference number.
3. You must show up on your appointment date at the exact time that you have scheduled. Early/late arrivals are not allowed to enter the premises (as per the DFA rule). Bring your required documents with you (See no. 1) and go to a DFA consular office nearest to your area.
4. Present your duly accomplished form at the counter.
5. Depending on the volume of passports applicants and counters accomodating applications open, you may have to get a queueing number. Sit for a while and wait until your number is called/appear on the counter monitor in the facility.
6. Once called, present your requirements for verification of identity and processing of your application.
7. Proceed to the Cashier's section to pay for the passport application processing fees. The DFA offers regular and express processing of passports, and these cost:
Regular Processing (15 working days): P950.00
Express Processing (7 working days): P1,200.00
8. Once payment is done, proceed to the Encoding Section for your biometrics data capturing.
9. You have two options to be able to claim your passport: either you go to the DFA consular ofie where it was applie at or have it delivered to you via a courier.
