The government of Taiwan has finally lifted the restriction in visa and work applications of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) after the Philippines and Taiwan finally reconciles.
The good news was sent to former senator Manuel Roxas II who recently visited Taiwan for the second time to finally settle rift which is affecting the employment status of the Filipinos there. This development is also posted in the offical website of the Philipppine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) at www.poea.gov.ph
“To express our good faith in response to your visits and the most recent measures taken by your government, we are lifting the restrictions on visa applications for all Filipino workers, effective immediately, and will resume the method used to process their work permits prior to February 7, 2011,” Taiwan Minister of Foreign Affairs Timothy Chin-tien Yang said on a letter sent to Roxas.
He also added that Taiwan decided to lift restrictions after they see the efforts of the Philippines to settle the issue and keep the relations of the two countries in tact. He even thanked the government for taking actions immediately.
“I would like to thank you for your tireless and extraordinary efforts to return our relations to normal. I appreciate in particular your recent visit, which paved the way for a quick resolution to this unfortunate incident," Yang said.
Although the Philippine government did not issue an apology to Tawain which is asked by the latter, the Taiwan government considers the change of leadership in the Bureau of Immigration as an apology itself.
Former Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Ricardo David has replaced Rolando Ledesma as the new BI commissioner.
There are about 77,000 OFWs in Taiwan today working mostly as domestic helpers and factory workers in electronic and garments firm.
