I have a lung scar, can I still work abroad?
Nov 3, 2010
There are many aspiring Filipinos to work abroad and most of their common problems is having a scar on their lungs, that make them unfit to work in Middle East countries. Is there still a chance for you if you have a lung scar? Here are some advices from our overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who have been diagnosed with lung scar.
(Hello, I just want to ask if having a lung scar would give me no chance in working abroad?)
“Bawal sa countries that are member in GCC or Gulf Cooperation Council. I have no idea if in NorthAm, European Union countries, USSR or in APAC would they accept applicants with lung scar...? As there is nobody share their stories here in OFWGuide Forum. I suggest try to apply. Wala naman mawawala sa subok lang at kung pumasa kahit may lung scar, it's your gain actually,” answered by forumer dark_hollywood. (It is prohibited in countries that are member in GCC or Gulf Cooperation Council. I have no idea if in NorthAm, European Union countries, USSR or in APAC would they accept applicants with lung scar...? As there is nobody share their stories here in OFWGuide Forum. I suggest try to apply. There nothing to lost if you try and if you pass even if you have a lung scar, it’s your gain actually.)
Another forumer, babyfersha, who has left the country on May 3, 2010 posted that even if her x-ray result shows that she has a lung scar, she was still able to leave the country with the help of her employer, since she asked for a waiver as suggested by the agency.
FIT TO WORK na, she posted. (When I took my medical exam at S.M. Lazo clinic in Malate, everything was normal except for the x-ray findings, I have a lung scar and the doctor honestly told me that I’m unfit to work in Middle East countries, and I should try to apply in countries not member of GCC. I told the doctor if there’s other way I could do since I already worked in Saudi and it’s just a scar. The doctor asked me to show my previous x-ray film last 2004, lucky that I was able to save it. He compared the two films and he said it’s just the same! I was hopeless then. I talked to the agency and told them about the medical result. They told me to ask my employer for a waiver stating that despite of my lung scar, they are still willing to hire me. And I sent email to my employer, after two days, the agency called me telling me that it’s already ok! I’m already FIT TO WORK.)
